This place was amazing! We had the snack bowl to start, the olives were so good. We got the roasted duck and it was cooked to perfection. We also got the brick chicken, delicious. We would definitely try this place again if we are in the area.

Absolutely phenomenal dining experience at Dakan Restaurant in Nevada City. From start to finish, everything was dialed in. Our server, Sky, was outstanding, knowledgeable, attentive, and spot-on with recommendations without ever being overbearing. Truly elevated the entire evening. We shared the beef wagyu carpaccio, fork-crushed burrata, and Caesar salad to start, each dish was beautifully balanced and packed with flavor. For mains, we had the venison, ribeye, and the chef’s special, and every single plate was cooked perfectly and downright mouth-watering. Timing was flawless: dishes arrived exactly when they should, nothing rushed, nothing delayed, which made the experience feel seamless and relaxed. Dessert sealed the deal with the pistachio dessert and golden milk crème brûlée… both were unforgettable and the perfect finish. Dakan nails it on food, service, and pacing. This is the kind of place you think about long after the meal is over. Can’t wait to come back. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

With love and laughing... Dinner out on Thanksgiving means no cooking or dishwashing... The food was insanely Fantastic. And yet, it was equally matched by the Service. "Restaurant DaKan" I Highly recommend this fresh new restaurant in Nevada City California. Btw. The space already had a great patio but with this new iteration... It has beautifully gotten an upgrade with a renovation to make the transit from one creatively styled environment to another seem completely fitting and expected from Restaurant DaKan And This Thanksgiving was A wonderfully masterful menu planned to satisfy the soul. Flights of wine, fresh warm artisanal bread with salted butter. A Pistachio salad with the perfect sherry vinaigrette that blended all the flavors into pure delight. Then the dinner course, moist tender turkey flanked by a thoughtfully chosen selection of grilled veggies, and a stuffing guaranteed to satisfy all those mushroom fanciers. However, my highlight was also my biggest surprise. Homemade cranberry sauce served warm, no, hot. I'm not a crannies fan but I will almost also always try something I have never had before. And this little warm wonder of deliciousness has made me have to reconsider my opinion and very firm stance ... "No cranberries". Like the vinaigrette, it tied all the yummies of a turkey day dinner into an experience. Then cap it all off, a delicious creamy, not mushy, perfect tiramisu. I know where we're going next year. It's not Grannies. Thanks for the memorable, deliberately accomplished experience you gave us on a generally mundane holiday headlined by a turkey. So, Restaurant DaKan Thank you.

The food was absolutely incredible. Michelin star Style presentation absolutely mouthwatering, delicious, and scrumptious. The orange wine was delicious. The cucumber wrapped salad was incredible. The carpaccio was completely on point, hamachi and scallops were amazing and also not pictured was the 16 ounce ribeye, which was tender, soft and cooked to perfection and with fries which were so well done. I would comfortably say this is the best restaurant in the area and oh yeah the Panna cotta dessert was top of the line Highly recommend displayed to anyone looking for a quality food, great atmosphere and professional top of the line service!

(Update, third meal. Forgive my particulars— it’s just how my brain works) My wife and I visited Friday night and got the carpaccio, the ravioli, the burger, and the Panna cotta. For me the burger doesn’t flow as well as it should. Needs a touch more acidity. The patty was over cooked again and was dense, and it seems to come from quite dry aged cuts (a little funky, but not too bad). There is a lightness to recently ground beef that I am missing that doesn’t compact as much—yields to a less dense bite. My palate was yearning for housemaid pickles or something. However, the fries and aïoli were spot on this time which made it a good plate—especially their perfect house-made ketchup— but not as good as it could have been. So close. The carpaccio was perfect as was the ravioli, and the Panna cotta was delightful but it was also over cooked like the crème brûlée last time. Needed to be removed from heat slightly sooner or use less gelatin. With some minor tweaks this place could be just as good as Restaurant Josephines. I’m really rooting for it. Service still has a slightly strange vibe. Original review: First meal we had was phenomenal (4.5/5) and the service was great (venison was flawless, poutine was boring. Soggy fries, not enough duck, muddy flavors). Carpaccio, radicchio salad and golden milk creme brûlée made up for the poutine. Made us excited to come back. Second meal was not great. Burger was very over cooked and tough when we requested medium rare and tasted strangely gamey (coming from someone who raises and processes his own sheep and is very used to gamey), service was extremely slow and slightly unprofessional (though the younger girl was super nice), dishes didn’t come out together when requested, and several people sitting around us were wondering where the food was as well. It was evident that there were not nearly enough servers on the floor, the place was packed and I just saw two ladies. The halibut and ravioli were wonderful. The frisée was boring and bland, as was the pomme croquettes, and the favorite thing we got last time (the golden milk creme brûlée) was sadly over cooked which caused it to lose the delightful complex flavors it has the first time. Tasted quite eggy, which is common when the eggs are overcooked. Overall we were there over two hours, sometimes waiting 35 minutes between when we had finished a dish to when the new one came. My wife’s main dish was going to be the halibut and the frisée but that was 30 minutes apart. I would go back, hoping for improvement, but I was disappointed the last time we came (last night). First time was awesome, though it was a less busy week night.

We came here for dinner and it was phenomenal!! Loved every dish we had. The bread, oysters, ravioli, caviar, skewers, and multiple desserts. Amazing food and service. Such an upscale and elegant restaurant, and the prices are not exorbitant. I would eat here every week if I could!

We have visited this restaurant multiple times since it opened in Nevada City. It’s always been amazing. This time was no exception. We had a friend in town and we decided we would try dining on the patio for the first time and it was magical. The lights and the heaters and the complementary blankets made it a wonderful experience. The three shared appetizers and three different entrées were all delicious. Our server Megan, who we had before was professional, courteous, funny, knowledgeable, engaging, and efficient. Everything you want in a server. We are lucky to live 10 minutes from this incredible jewel in the woods.
